The Upsala Upstage Players present “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” based on a book by Lawrence Kasha and David S. Landay on July 29, 30, and August 1 at 7:30pm and July 31 at 2:00pm in the Upsala High School auditorium. Tickets are $9 adults and $7 seniors & students. Buy advanced tickets at Lange Oil and the Community Center in Upsala and take a dollar off the ticket price. Advanced tickets available until July 27th.

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers

Based extremely loosely on the Stephen Vincent Benet story Sobbin' Women," Seven Brides for Seven Brothers takes place on an Oregon ranch, maintained by Adam Pontabee and his six brothers. When Adam brings home his new bride Milly, she is appalled at the brothers' slovenliness and sets about turning these unwashed louts into immaculate gentlemen. During the boisterous barn-raising scene, the brothers get into a scuffle with a group of townsmen over the affection of six comely lasses. Yearning to become husbands like their big brother, they ask Adam for advice.


When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a pooka in the shape of a six-foot, one and a half-inch tall rabbit, to guests at a society party, his society obsessed sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter Myrtle Mae and their family from future embarrassment. When they arrive at the sanitarium, due to a comedy of errors, the doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion.
